Macnica Networks Corp. announces that it has signed a distribution agreement for Japan with Nimbus Data Systems, Inc., a leading vendor of 100% SSD (solid-state drive) storage systems that deliver higher performance, lower operating costs and superior availability, providing the optimal foundation for virtualization, databases, cloud computing, and I/O-intensive applications.

Storage challenges

Due to exponential increases in the amount of data they handle, enterprises face an urgent need to add more storage capacity. More storage is also needed by I/O intensive platforms and applications such as Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), Databases, and High Performance Computing (HPC) . For these reasons, storage accounts for an increasing share of the infrastructure costs at enterprises and data centers.
 
But adding hard disk capacity is a problematic solution to increased storage needs, because of the increased risk of mechanical failure, increased power consumption, and the need to add more cooling capacity. Short-stroking, a technique to accelerate disk I/O, delivers increased speed but at the cost of wasted capacity due to many of the tracks on the disk remaining unused. Solutions such as adding high-speed DRAM to increase cache size or adding SSD storage to existing storage suffer from the disadvantage of high cost.
